The Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum) is a unique addition to any bonsai collection. As one of the few deciduous conifers, this Lowcountry native tree is known for shedding its needles in the fall, giving it a distinctive "bald" appearance. Naturally found in the saturated soils, swamps, and stream banks of the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plains and the Mississippi Valley, the Bald Cypress thrives in a range of conditions.

Scientific Name Taxodium Distichum

Watering Water daily during the growing season. Keep the soil consistently moist, mimicking its natural habitat.
Repotting Because the Bald Cypress is a fast-growing species, repotting will likely be necessary every year from early to mid-spring.
Pruning Prune unnecessary leaves throughout the growing season. Be careful using wire on the Bald Cypress, as it can damage the bark due to its fast-growing nature.
